John has practiced as a tax lawyer for two decades, becoming a partner in a national law firm and managing director of his own boutique practice. He has also been a tax trainer, podcast host, regular TV and radio commentator, and is a sought after public speaker. John has unique insights into the challenges and issues that face the tax profession and is committed to advancing the interests of The Tax Institute’s members and helping them in the amazing work that they do which plays such an important role in the Australian community.
John has extensive public policy advocacy experience, having worked as a director of a public policy think tank. He has advised governments and policy makers on some of the most important challenges facing Australia, not least the need for comprehensive tax reform, but also other legal matters like free speech, human rights, and constitutional matters. These skills help promote the work of the Tax Policy & Advocacy team in advocating for members and dealing with governments and regulators to help improve our tax system.
John is also a published writer, military historian, and author of the book “Big Wars” which looks at historical trends in military technology.
