End of year function - Brisbane
Our end of year functions give you the opportunity to recap the year with your local tax community and State Council in a fun atmosphere with light refreshments. At this get-together you will have presentations from State and National Council members as we take the chance to relax, unwind and socialise with like-minded professionals.

2025 - A Year in Review
2025 was the Year of the Snake. It promised so much, and delivered so little. We still don't know if UPE's are directly caught by Division 7A after 15 years. We still dont know how to make a valid FTE, apparently. Pillar 2 has turned into Schroedinger's Cat, and it turns out that maybe taxing unearned gains was all part of a long term bait and switch strategy to tax superannuation at a 40% rate.
Faced with fears of the challenges of AI replacing humans as tax advisers, it appears instead that AI will largely be used to deepfake cat pictures and, like generations of humans before it, simply make stuff up under pressure.
On the upside, we had a new High Court decision on Part IVA - well, sort of - which is less confused than Hart.When: 20 November 2025
