The use of trusts in private group structures is well known. In this session we gave you insights into some of the tricks and traps of trust taxation (especially for trusts that carry on a business). Specifically, the session covered:

  • An overview of unit trusts, discretionary trusts and so-called hybrid trusts
  • Public trading trusts
  • What is a MIT versus an AMIT and how are they used?; and
  • Impacts for foreign investors/beneficiaries.
